Margie's castaway this week is Zanna Van Dijk.
Zanna is a blogger, personal trainer and fitness model with over 170,000 followers on Instagram. At the age of 24 she has accomplished more than most of her age - she has walked in London Fashion week, has her own range of active wear and a fitness events company. She released her first book last year and has graced the cover of numerous magazines as well as being appointed the first ever UK ambassador for Adidas.
I ask Zanna about the secrets to her success, we talk about the reponsibilities that come with having such a huge following and the idea of an "overnight success". As someone in the fitness industry I was really interested to talk to Zanna about her love of food, what she loves to eat and how she came to choose the recipes for her book.
Zanna's choice of final meal before heading off to the desert island completely took me by surprise and you will hear me silent with laughter - if such a thing is possible. I went into peals of laughter - which for me when I find something so funny I want to cry, comes out as silent shaking of my shoulders. Yes, all a bit odd, but it's the case none the less. Zanna's last meal is not what you would expect in the slightest, and I won't ruin it for you by telling you what it is here, you should listen to it!
Zanna is a big fan of the restaurant Zuma which I have only been to once and I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I will make it my mission to return...that Blackened Cod and the soft shell crab won't eat itself.
We also talk about the delicious food you can get in Australia which is truly next level. The Australians have completely nailed brunch, I went for just two weeks and probably ate a year's supply of avocados and gained two dress sizes in the process. Totally worth it. But yes Zanna talks of the Acai berry bowls, and the poached eggs and it made me want to jump on the next plane to Sydney. Zanna recommends Safya in Byrons Bay for Egyptian health foods which sounds delicious and intriguing all at the same time, which I like. To be honest she had me at cumin eggs.
Desert Island Dish: Soft shell crab from Zuma to start, followed by pasta with a can of chicken in white sauce with loads of grated Red Leicester cheese on top with sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream. All washed down with a Dr Pepper.
So all in all a really lovely episode full of foodie inspiration and I definitely recommend having a listen. Just click on this clever button below and you can hear us chatting.
