It is a perpetual problem over Christmas (and I assume for our American and Canadian friends at Thanksgiving) that there is never enough oven space for what you want to cook, especially when you've got guests.
This is why we love this method for cooking Pigs in Blankets in the air fryer - a super quick, oven-free way to make everyone's favourite party food.
Why you will love this air fryer cocktail sausages recipe:
- You can easily cook these pigs in blankets ahead and re-heat them when your guests arrive.
- They're zero effort - more of a set of cooking instructions than a recipe!
- They can easily be made gluten-free friendly by either buying gluten-free pigs in blankets or by following the instructions below to assemble your own.
Ingredients:
Pigs in Blankets - for ease of entertaining, buy pre-assembled pigs in blankets so all you have to do is throw them in the air fryer!
Cranberry sauce - from a jar is fine, but you can also make your own.
Full recipe can be found in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post, just scroll down!
Substitutions and Variations:
Assemble your own pigs in blankets - if you want to go the extra mile and assemble your own pigs in blankets, use ½ a piece of streaky bacon per cocktail sausage, and secure the join with half a toothpick so the bacon does not uncurl in the air fryer.
Make them sticky - a few minutes before the end of cooking, once the bacon is crispy, drizzle over a little honey or maple syrup, toss and air fry for a further 3 minutes. You will however need to clean out your air fryer if you do this if you're not using a liner!
Directions:
Here's a step by step guide for what you need to do, but you can find the full recipe below for detailed instructions.
ONE: Place the pigs in blankets in the air fryer evenly spaced out.
TWO: Air fry for 15 minutes at 200C, or until golden and crisp. They may need turning half way if the basket is particularly crowded.
THREE: Serve hot with cranberry sauce on the side for dipping.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, but add an extra 5 minutes onto the cooking time, and either toss the basket or turn the pigs in blankets after the first 5 minutes.
Yes! To re-heat, simply air fry them for a further 5 minutes or so when cooked through. You don't need to worry about overcrowding the air fryer basket when you're re-heating, so this is a good way to serve a crowd: crisp them up properly in batches ahead of time, then heat them through when your guests arrive.
